The MMTG was formed in 1971 for its first production:
Oliver! at the Majestic Cinema in Macclesfield, hence the name. The
group continued to produce stage musicals until 1985 when it ventured into
its other major stronghold, the annual Christmas Pantomimes, with 'Dick
Whittington'. In 1991 the group celebrated
its 21st birthday with a special concert, and in the following years
assisted other organisations with charity and fundraising productions.
In 1996 the group celebrated its 25th anniversary and in November that year
moved into its permanent home, the MMTG studios.
The MMTG studios are situated in Jodrell Street above 'Brookside
Welding Supplies', and were officially opened by the Mayor of Macclesfield
on 1st June 1997. They provide main rehearsal and dance studios, as
well as wardrobe, technical and administrative facilities.
Main rehearsals normally take place on Wednesday
evenings with additional rehearsals on Tuesday evenings as required.
The social sub-committee provide rehearsal refreshments on
Wednesdays and organise regular social events, including London weekends to
see the West-End shows, Treasure Hunts, Quiz Nights, 10 Pin Bowling,
Anglesey Weekends, and visits to local Theatre productions. Details of
forthcoming events are given in the groups monthly newsletter and booking
lists are posted on the social events board at the studios.
The backstage department is responsible for scenery and
properties, sound and lighting, costumes and wardrobe, and publicity have
their own workshops and facilities in the studios. Members are most
welcome to assist with any department. For
