Is
it just a coincidence that Liz Knutton is
starring as "Laurie" in the Macclesfield Majestic Theatre production at MADS Theatre in Macclesfield, the week before Gemma
Sutton, formerly of MMTG (Macclesfield Majestic Theatre Group) plays her in the professional version of "Oklahoma"
at the Opera House in Manchester.
Kevin Clarke once again presents another MMTG blockbuster musical from
the Rogers & Hammerstein stable with Steve Clayton as the lead "Curly".
Robbie Medina plays "Will Parker", and his wife Ali Medina plays
"Ado Annie".
Making a welcome return to MMTG after a short break are Chris Simmons
as "Jud Fry", and Alex Bingle as "Ali Hakim".
Whereas Marti Webb plays "Aunt Eller" on the professional stage,
Sheila Gaskell fills that role as head of the Oklahoma community for MMTG. Sheila has appeared in most productions of MMTG since its formation in 1971
Publicity photos were taken at Bonny Catty Farm in Macclesfield courtesy of Peter Garsden, who plays "Andrew Carnes". Thanks also go to Lexi Cooper, and Helen Millin for the loan of "Mischief" who posed patiently for the horse photos.
On stage will be a colourful chorus of cowboys and cowgirls singing to
the accompaniment of Kath Ibbotson, Musical Director, and her band.
The show is set in Oklahoma Territory, USA, outside the town of Claremore
in 1906, it tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with
farmer girl Laurey Williams. Their love is challenged by Laurey's threatening
farmhand, Jud Fry, and much of the drama follows the tension generated
by this conflict.
You can see the show at Macclesfield between 4th and 9th October at MADS Theatre, Lord Street, Macclesfield, and the following week at the Opera House in Manchester. For MMTG tickets go

Gemma Sutton says, "I had such a wonderful 10 years with the Majestic from the age of 7 in the King
and I. It really stood me in good stead for my future and I greatly appreciate
the support from the members since. The experience I gained with the group gave
me the confidence to go to drama school and consequently achieve my dream of
taking a lead role in the West End and now appearing as Laurey in the UK tour
of 'Oklahoma!'.
I'm really enjoying the tour. Oklahoma! Is one of the classic musicals and
was revolutionary when it was written in 1943 as being the first fully integrated
musical using music, dialogue and dance to tell the story. Performing the 15
minute ballet 8 times a week is certainly exhausting! I wish the Majestic production
every success."
