NODA North West MagazineBabes in the Wood (1993)Macclesfield Majestic TheatreProducer: Carol Dabbs What a good, all round, family entertainment this pantomime proved to be. The Majestic Workshop and stage staff must have worked like mad to create the multiplicity of scenes and gimmickry for this production. The dancing sequences were enjoyable and gave younger members the opportunity to know what amateur theatre is all about. The Deep in the Forest scene with Heidi Dabbs' (Alfred Acorn) magical moon was enchanting. The large, enthusiastic cast played and sang well. The School Room scene was really funny, thanks in no small part, to David McGuiness' relaxed and affable Nurse Glenda Glucose. The younger performers scored and made their mark. Stephen Taylor was an amusing Simon the Spyman; Ron Taylor (Sheriff of Nottingham) was a super baddie; Angela McIntyre (Maid Marion) an attractive performer and Denise Holian (Robin Hood) had all the necessary panache and vitality for a principal boy. Footnote: Sweets for the children in the audience proliferated, but the "chill" above our heads during Act 2 was not caused by the sweet-loving Theatre Ghost, but by the acrobatics of Treasurer and lighting assistant William Milne! A truly traditional ending to an enjoyable evening.
