COPACABANA (2009)
Macclesfield Majestic Theatre Group
Director: Collette Desborough
Choreographers: Collette Desborough
Musical Director: Ian Jones
This was glitzy and glamorous and full credit should go to the wardrobe
team for their
fabulous costumes. As a first time director, Collette showed she is here
to stay and she did a good job with this production.
Micheal Daws, as Tony, worked hard in this role, but sometimes looked
a little uncomfortableduring his dancing numbers, showing great concentration
in his expressions. Alex Howarth,
as Lola, gave a good performance and worked well with both Tony and Rico.
I particularly
liked Carolyn Farrish-Mayer as Conchita. Here we had a real professional
showgirl
performance which was well sustained. Peter Garsden was well cast as Sam
and had good comedy timing, but the outstanding performance for me was
Jane Campaigne as Gladys. She is a natural actress with great facial
expression and an ability with comedy.
Congratulations to all the chorus.
You showed some fine work but I did feel that in this production, the
music was far too loud for you. Quite a number struggled during musical
numbers, which was such a shame as it did spoil the effect.
Thank you for the sparkle and your very kind hospitality.”
