Oklahoma (1975)Extract from MMTG Newsletter (December 1975)Our week of "Oklahoma" was a stupendous success not only from the financial standpoint, but also from the artistic result which persuaded Tom Wildern of the Manchester Evening News to include it in a short list for his annual "Oscar" award. All departments excelled themselves:- Players, Backstage Staff, Lighting, Sound, Wardrobe, Properties, Make-Up and Publicity; the corporate strength of the group in all sections has never been more evident. The Press were pleased, the Public spoke with their money, and every V.P. and member of the society felt that they had been associated with a first class show. The following extract from a letter received from a member of the public quite unknown to us, speaks for itself:- "Every part of the show was so finely performed and particularly it was noticeable how everybody in the cast seemed to enjoy themselves so much and this feeling was warmly transmitted to the audience. It is the first time we have been to one of your productions, but we shall certainly to along to all your future efforts."....How about that? Now what can we say about the man who held all the strings together and skilfully drew them to a most satisfying climax? First, we have the following note from him:- "How gratifying to have received such suport and praise for OUR production; I'm sure that all who assisted in any way must feel a deep sense of pride at a jobe well done. As your producer (who I know sometimes has driven you hard) I offer my grateful thanks for your co-operation and support, both principals, chorus, and dancers, also for your personal assistance in costume production which helped so much. To all departments congratulations on excellent support; I'm sure you are gratified. To the production team, without whose support it would have been impossible to have reached such a standard, a sincere "Well Done". A special word of thanks to our President and his hard working staff on the booking plan; we nearly filled those remaining three nights" For the future! Our main, "My Fair Lady", opening on 25th October 1976 will be a challenge to all. May we approach this with the same enthusiasm and dedication so evident in "Oklahoma". Finally may I thank the Group for the beautifual gift presented to me on the final night; it is most appreciated and will be treasured as a memory of a wonderful week. Connie joins me in this and for the bouquet so thoughfully provided." Sincerely Yours, Hedley Palin (Producer) |
