Robinson Crusoe (1991)Review by Sharon WardRobinson Crusoe sailed into Macclesfield and made his fortune with a swashbuckling song and dance. And along the way he made a friend of everyone who packed the theatre to see Robin and his comrades. The Macclesfield Majestic Theatre Group's annual pantomime this year took off with avengeance on its first night. The light-hearted story of how Robin, played by Nenise Holian, makes his fortune and marrys Josephine, played by Tracy Chuter, was wonderfully acted by the entire cast. Stars of the show award must, however, go to Esmerelda Crusoe, played by David McGuiness in illuminous drag and idiotic Billy Crusoe, convincingly played by Michael Milne. This duo brought many a laugh to the audience and seemed to be taylor made for their parts. Young dancers, bold scenery, and costumes gave a polished finish to the performance. But perhaps the highlight of the whole show was the carnival in Rio when the stage and theatre were alive with carnival music, flamenco dancers and bright colours. Everyone in the audience seemed to derive great pleasure from the pantomime which was a highly professional performance by all. Action PackedMacclesfield Majestic Theatre Group's production of Robinson Crusoe was two and a half hours of action packed fun for all the family. THe colourful costumes were to the Group's consistently high standard and the highlight of the show was the dramatic finale in which all the cast were dressed in black and white. The case were all extremely convincing in their roles with plenty of laughter from David McGuiness and Peter Mannion playing their typical comedy duo. In the title role Denise Holian show her excellent singing and acting ability. Other excellent performances came from Carol Dabbs and Michael Milne. Producer was Shirley Davies and main sponsors were Barclays Bank.
