SLEEPING BEAUTY (2006)

Macclesfield Majestic Theatre

Producer: Kevin Clarke
Musical Director: Ian Jones
Choreography: Collette Desborough

The first thing to strike one about this pantomime was the amount of detail that had gone into all the beautiful costumes. The abundance of colour certainly lit up the stage and the ideas were fabulous. There are many pantomimes on the circuit that are quite wordy, but this Ron Hall script was not only traditional but kept to the storyline throughout.

The production team had worked hard to ensure that all on stage were well drilled. Two good performances by Helen Brady and Mike Raymond as the King and Queen immediately got the audience going and comedy was well supplied by Nic Dobson, Claire Mannion and Ric Hazelwood. Our 'baddie' in this production was a female by way of the Charcoal Fairy (Jean Clarke) who, dressed as a Cruella De Ville character was menacing and well portrayed. She was ably supported by her side-kick, Morticia (Sarah Firth). More fun came from the Prince and his companion, Frederick (Michael Daws & Phil Mason) and it was lovely to hear the two singing together, both had strong
well-controlled voices.

Lynsey Hogen made a good Princess Aurora, but stealing the show was Eleanor Strutt as the Diamond Fairy. She gave a lovely performance and had a very professional approach to the part for one so young. Undoubtedly a trained dancer, she also had a good singing voice. Well done too, to the chorus and dancers, each one interacted well with the principals.

This was a good all round pantomime. Thank you for your hospitality, I look forward to seeing you all again.
